Marion Maréchal believes that the death of her grandmother Jean-Marie Le Pen should allow the far-right to open up to a broader coalition including the center-right, taking inspiration from Giorgia Meloni’s Italy. .
The death of Jean-Marie Le Pen at the age of 96 on January 7 opens news for the far-right. And it is his granddaughter Marion Maréchal who assures him. The death of the co-founder of the FN, a figure of the extreme right in France, should make it possible to break down political divisions.
“The death of Jean-Marie Le Pen, my grandfather, closes for me an era from which we should learn lessons,” assures the MEP this Thursday on the plateau of Big Mouths. “The pro or anti-Gaullist divide, pro or anti French Algeria is over. Now the real divide is: do we want an Algerian France or not?”, believes the MEP.
“Is it unthinkable to work one day with Edouard Philippe?”
As the 2027 presidential election approaches, Marion Maréchal wants the far-right to have a broader alliance by looking towards the traditional right and even part of the center-right:
“A part manages to come together, I am in the framework of the coalition with Eric Ciotti and the RN. We are missing part of the LR and part of the center-right. Is it unthinkable to work one day with Edouard Philippe ?I think there are points of convergence”, estimates Marion Maréchal.
The former ally of Eric Zemmour intends to draw inspiration from Giorgia Meloni, the president of the Council in Italy: “The Italian model is very interesting. Giorgia Meloni has a coalition from the center-right to the national body. We have a few years left until 2027 to break (the sanitary cordon with the right Editor’s note)”, she assures on RMC and RMC Story.
“I’m not a Donald Trump groupie”
What is happening abroad greatly inspires Marion Maréchal, who has just returned from Washington where she attended the inauguration of American President Donald Trump: “I am not a Donald Trump groupie”, defends herself – but she believes that the whimsical billionaire has several tricks up his sleeve.
-“I went there as vice-president of the European Party of Conservatives and Reformists with the vocation of creating transatlantic links which rarely exist,” she assures.
“Donald Trump is a driving force of inspiration. We share common struggles: freedom of expression, drug cartels considered terrorist organizations, woke propaganda in schools, the end of land rights and the fight against “illegal immigration. It inspires me and I hope that in Europe we can have the successes that he has”, she assures.

But Marion Maréchal recognizes that certain interests of Donald Trump are not those of the French and Europeans, particularly from an economic point of view: “But we must not misdiagnose, particularly on the increase in customs duties. They are on weakened sectors and it is not Trump’s fault if we sabotage our industry, if we put in place a European green pact which is a tsunami of regulatory standards”, she assures.
“How can we negotiate from a position of strength? It is not by vilifying Donald Trump but by reacting as a European by giving ourselves the means to be competitive,” believes Marion Maréchal.
