A rare and spectacular incident occurred this Wednesday, January 22 in the early evening, in the 3rd arrondissement of Lyon. A train on line T3 derailed around 7 p.m., shortly before the Dauphiné-Lacassagne stop. According to initial findings, a switching problem could be the cause of this accident.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the passengers on board, nor among nearby motorists or pedestrians. The train, stopped at the entrance to an intersection, however, seriously disrupted tram and bus traffic in the area.
Direct consequence of this incident: traffic on line T3 was interrupted this Wednesday evening between the Gare Part-Dieu and Bel Air-Les Brosses stations, only allowing the trains to circulate between Meyzieu les Panettes and Vaulx-en-Velin La Silk. Relay buses have been put in place to compensate for this interruption.
After a night of work by the technical teams deployed on site, the situation returned to normal this Thursday, January 23 in the morning. Traffic on the T3 and Rhônexpress trams was able to resume as soon as the damaged train was evacuated.
