TOXIC GAS – A 60-year-old man was found dead after carbon monoxide poisoning Wednesday afternoon in Saint-Brieuc (Côtes-d’Armor)
A tragedy unfolded Wednesday afternoon in a two-story building located not far from the city center of Saint-Brieuc (Côtes-d’Armor). Called around 3:30 p.m., emergency services discovered the lifeless body of a 60-year-old man in a home located on the first floor, victim of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Four other residents of the building were also poisoned, including a 26-year-old man who was treated and transported to the Saint-Brieuc hospital center. The other three people were left behind after examination. According to the first elements communicated by the Côtes-d’Armor departmental fire and rescue service, a defective boiler is the cause of this carbon monoxide leak.
Every year, this toxic and odorless gas causes around a hundred deaths in France. It is the leading cause of death from accidental poisoning in the home.
