“what courage”, “I’m in tears”… Lionel and Eva moved viewers

“I can’t do it anymore, I can’t do it anymore, I’m starting to feel dizzy…” For Lionel, Franche-Comté candidate in this new season of Beijing Express, the show started with a bang last Thursday.

The candidates had barely arrived in Tanzania, the host Stéphane Rotemberg announced to them a first test: a 4 km trek on a difficult path, carrying their suitcases not at all suited to this terrain.

The start of the adventure was hard for Lionel, 54, who is participating with his daughter Eva. Quickly, the Haut-Saônois becomes exhausted and can no longer move forward. “I can’t do it anymore,” he whispers to Eva. “Suitcases are heavy. It’s not easy. »

Operated for cancer two months before

It must be said that Lionel, 54, was operated on for cancer in June, two months before the start of the adventure. He also obtained the green light from his doctors only a few days before taking the plane to Tanzania.

His story deeply touched Internet users, many of whom reacted on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

“You are my hero daddy”

Lionel was able to count on his daughter Eva, 21, to boost him. “You’re strong dad, I love you. You are the best, you are my hero! » she encourages him during the trek. “With everything you’ve been through over the last few years, it’s normal. Nobody has experienced this. »

Thanks to the words of his daughter, Lionel managed to remobilize himself: “We will last until the end, whatever the cost. Even if we advance 10 meters by 10 meters, I don’t care. I want us to get there, even if we’re last. It’s the mind. »

The father/daughter duo arrived last on this trek, but it was only the first stage of the event. After a frantic hitchhiking race, the Haut-Saônois finally finished in fourth place.

Tune in this Thursday, January 23 on M6 to follow the rest of their adventures, with a new difficulty on the menu: one of the longest treks in the history of the show!
