Man randomly stabs three people in Nagano, leaving one dead

Japan is bereaved by tragic gratuitous violence. A man stabbed three people at a train station in the center of the archipelago on Wednesday before fleeing, leaving one dead.

The attack occurred outside JR Nagano Station, Kyodo and Jiji news agencies said, with police searching for the attacker.

The main victim was 49 years old

The three victims were waiting at a bus stop and were apparently targeted at random, Kyodo reported, citing an investigative source. The deceased man was aged 49, while another victim, aged around 30, was seriously injured. The third person injured is a woman in her thirties.

Nagano, capital of the prefecture of the same name, is located some 225 km west of Tokyo and is a popular Japanese destination for winter sports.
