Forty-eight hours after his inauguration, Donald Trump took up the burning issue of the war in Ukraine. The new American president did not hesitate to flex his muscles.
“I am not trying to harm Russia. I love the Russian people and I have always had very good relations with President Putin,” Donald Trump began by recalling this Wednesday, January 22 in a post published on the Truth Social network, going so far as to remember the help provided by Russia to the United States in the victory of World War II. “All that being said, I am going to do a GREAT SERVICE to Russia, whose economy is in decline, and to President Putin. Fix this now and STOP this ridiculous war!” launched the newly inaugurated 47th President of the United States.
In his sights, the war between Moscow and kyiv, which he had promised to end “in 24 hours” during his presidential campaign. If he has since revised his objectives, ultimately leaving himself “six months” to achieve a ceasefire, Donald Trump will not have waited more than 48 hours after his inauguration to take up this burning issue. Calling to “end this war, which should never have started [s’il avait] been president”, the new tenant of the White House did not hesitate to demonstrate his legendary outspokenness nor to use his favorite weapon: the threat.
“If we do not reach a ‘deal,’ and soon, I will have no choice but to impose high levels of taxes, tariffs and sanctions on everything sold by Russia to the United States. United States and various other participating countries,” he warned. And to add: “We can do it [mettre fin à la guerre en Ukraine ndlr.] the easy way or the hard way – and the easy way is always the best.” Word to the wise…
