PSG/Manchester City – The Parisians’ notes: the huge match of Neves, Dembélé/Barcola decisive

This Wednesday, as part of the 7th day of the league phase of the 2024-2025 Champions League, Saint-Germain faced Manchester City au Princes Park. After a match where the Red and Blue had a huge match overall and won 4-2 after being down 0-2 (PSG/Manchester City video summary). Here are our notes from the Parisians.

Guardian –

Gianluigi Donnarumma (6.5) – Very clean first half, on the feet and in his saves. He can’t do much about City’s two goals. He postponed the deadline for a long time. Note that his kicks were very good.

Defenders –

Ashraf Hakimi (7,5) – As usual, he was very good. He brings a lot of personality to PSG. Scorer, but following an offside action, he again showed character in this match.

Marquinhos (6.5) – A first half without too many difficulties. The Parisian captain was good, but not the best Parisian. He still played higher in the second half.

Willian Pacho (6.5) – Good in duels, a little slow, but he held up well in the first half overall. He still muzzled Haaland well overall.

Nuno Mendes (6) – When he decides to show himself in front, it is very often dangerous. He is so strong at times, but capable of really poor quality raises. He had a period of doubt which greatly penalized the team.

Backgrounds –

Fabian Ruiz (6,5) – Great first half, he scratched balls, he played fair. He was less present in the second. Replaced by Warren Zaire-Emery in the 61st minute.

-

Vitinha (7.5) – In the first half, he regulated the game. We found a good Vitinha, but he also needs to be able to play more fairly offensively. The Portuguese has often been criticized for being too small, not robust enough, but he brings something completely different to what Luis Enrique asks for.

João Neves (10) – When he plays like that (first period), he clearly has the makings of a very great player. A stalker, he kept pushing the Citizens into technical fouls. It covers a large part of the ground. His feedback is impeccable. What energy. With him, PSG progresses in its character, in the way of approaching the strong moments and the weak moments of the matches. ParisFans favorite, he was huge in this match.

Attackers –

Lee Kang-in (5) – Neither huge nor bad, his first period is quite usual. He has the ball, he knows how to keep the ball, but he is too tender in duels. Replaced by Ousmane Dembélé at half-time (8) – He made a good entry, in the middle, he put PSG back in the match.

Désiré Doué (7) – The fairest and most dangerous attacker in the first half. He felt a little hollow in this first act, but above all he tried to play fair. Defensively, he brings numbers to the middle in the folds. Before going out, he hits the bar which allows Barcola to score, another big game from him. Replaced by Gonçalo Ramos in the 61st minute.

Bradley Barcola (7,5) – Difficult to judge his first half. He was correct, but he lacked what made him an extraordinary player: his provocation with speed. We have never seen him overflow his opposite. He was better in second, passer and scorer, he completely relaunched his season and the Paris match. Replaced by Lucas Hernandez in the 81st.

Coach –

Luis Enrique (9) – He made his team what he wanted. He takes on the game against a big player in this LDC. He doesn’t hesitate to make choices. He is criticized, but whatever people say, the club is progressing. His choices were relevant. He transformed the face of PSG. He remained calm and we can congratulate him for his work.
