Kasper Schmeichel extends his stay at Celtic until summer 2026

Kasper Schmeichel has signed a contract extension at Celtic, guaranteeing his stay at the club until the summer of 2026.

The experienced Danish international goalkeeper joined the club last summer following the retirement of Joe Hart at the end of the 2023/24 season. Since then, Schmeichel has become an essential figure in the team, playing every match of the campaign.

The 38-year-old has had an impressive start to his career at Parkhead, conceding just 11 goals in 23 Premiership appearances and playing a key role in the League Cup final, where he saved the decisive spot-kick in of the penalty shootout victory against Rangers.

Schmeichel’s contributions extend beyond national competitions; he also helped secure two clean sheets in the last two Champions League away matches, putting Celtic on the doorstep of the knockout stages for the first time in 12 years.

Initially signed for one season, he has now extended his contract to stay in Glasgow for a further three seasons. Celtic announced the news on Wednesday as they prepare for their crucial European clash against Young Boys.
