Samsung Galaxy S25 vs Galaxy S24: the match of characteristics (S25, S25+ and S25 Ultra)

There are new high-end smartphones from Samsung. On January 22, 2025, the Korean brand unveiled its new Galaxy S25 rangewhich will be on sale from February 7. On the program: a lot of artificial intelligence, new software previews (with One UI 7) and, obviously, some hardware developments. The new Galaxy S25s are nevertheless less generous in new features than their predecessors: most of their characteristics do not change.

What are the distinctive elements between the S24 and S25 range? This article takes a closer look at the technical characteristics of the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, Galaxy S25 Ultra, as well as those of their predecessors.

Galaxy S24 vs. Galaxy S25: the formula does not change

The Galaxy S25 has the same flaws as the Galaxy S24. Its 6.2-inch screen, which is certainly one of the best on the market, has a lower definition than that of the two large models (Full HD+, versus Quad HD+). It also skips 45 W fast charging, since you once again have to make do with 25 W.

On the menu of new features, we notice that the device is thinner (7.2 mm, compared to 7.6 mm), logically lighter, more powerful and compatible with Wi-Fi 7. The good news is that the French model is upgraded to a Snapdragon chip, while the previous generation used Exynos processors. There’s also a 512 GB version for the first time, for fans of small phones looking for lots of storage. The rest, like the camera and the price, does not change.

Galaxy S24+ vs. Galaxy S25+: the least differences

Like the Galaxy S24+, the Galaxy S25+ is a large smartphone with a diagonal of 6.7 inches. Its new features are also very light, since it stands out above all for its thickness (7.3 mm, vs. 7.6 mm), its weight and the introduction of Wi-Fi 7.

Besides better performance and the use of a Snapdragon chip (the Exynos of the S24 was criticized), the rest is generally identical. The hardware part (cameras, battery, charging, RAM, storage capacities, etc.) is the same.

Galaxy S24 Ultra vs. Galaxy S25 Ultra: more interesting new features

The Ultra range is the one that is evolving the most in 2025. Samsung is definitively burying the Galaxy Note era and putting an end to the curved appearance of the Galaxy S24 Ultra and its predecessors. The Galaxy S25 Ultra resembles the S25, S25+, S24 and S24+, with flat edges, closer to what the rest of the industry offers (it’s also 0.1mm thinner). We also notice much thinner screen borders, which allow it to go from a 6.8-inch screen, already giant, to a 6.9-inch screen, even more XXL. But the size of the product remains the same, now with even stronger Gorilla Glass Armor 2 (and still anti-reflective, even if the technology is a little different). We also note a significantly lower weight (218 grams, versus 232 grams).

In terms of the rest of the characteristics, Samsung is once again very discreet. The S25 Ultra is more powerful… but the developments stop (almost) there. The size of the battery does not change and the storage capacities offered are identical from one year to the next. The only new feature: the ultra wide angle goes to a 50 Mpix sensor, which should significantly improve its quality.

A year focused on software

You have understood, the Galaxy S25s are meager hardware developments of the Galaxy S24. Samsung is betting on a software upgrade, with many exclusive functions, to make the phones even more versatile. The introduction of a super AI agent is notably one of the strong points.

An update from S24 to S25, or from S24+ to S25+, is therefore not recommended, unless you cannot tolerate the heating and autonomy of the Exynos chips. The S25 Ultra is perhaps the exception, since it introduces some new features.
