Dow Jones greets Trump inauguration with nice gain, outperforms S&P 500 By Investing.com

Investing.com – After a three-day weekend, with U.S. markets closed on Monday due to a public holiday, the stock reacted positively to Trump’s inauguration on Tuesday, closing up 1.24%.

This is a much better performance than that of the S&P 500 (+0%) and (+0.64%).

Among the Dow Jones stocks, we note that these are 3%, Nike (NYSE:) et al Caterpillar (NYSE:) which increased the most, at +4.16%, +3.29% and +3.20%. Conversely, Apple (NASDAQ:), Chevron (NYSE:) and Merck posted the largest declines, at -3.19%, -2% and -1.72%.

Recall that the main event since the beginning of the week was the inauguration of Donald Trump as president of the United States, marking the start of a new administration that promised significant political changes.

In his inauguration speech, Mr. Trump emphasized his vision of restoring American greatness, focusing on the themes of economic revitalization, national security and abandoning globalization in favor of of the priority given to national interests.

Immediately after taking office, President Trump began issuing a series of executive orders in line with his campaign promises, which led to a positive market reaction. The main cause for celebration was that Trump avoided imposing across-the-board tariffs on his first day in office, even though he said he was considering it.

For the rest of the week, the evolution of the Dow Jones and other US indices should continue to depend largely on Trump’s declarations and decrees, especially since the economic calendar is particularly light.

From a graphical point of view, we note that the closing of the Dow Jones above the round threshold of 44,000 points yesterday evening constitutes a positive signal. From now on, the next potential obstacle will be the peak of November 11, 2024 close to 44,500 pts, before the historic record of December 4 above 45,000 points.

Finally, note that the Dow Jones is currently showing stable on the futures markets, not ruling out a positive opening later today.
