Australian Open: Ben Shelton dismisses Lorenzo Sonego and reaches the semi-finals

Ben Shelton reaches the semi-finals of the Australian Open after his victory over Lorenzo Sonego. He will face the winner of Sinner-De Minaur.

Ben Shelton (20th) reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open for the second time in his career after his quarter-final victory against Italian Lorenzo Sonego (55th). The young American won 6-4, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (7/4) after almost four hours of play. Shelton, who had already reached the semi-finals of the US Open in 2023, will meet the winner of the match between Jannik Sinner (1st) and Alex De Minaur (8th), scheduled for later in the evening.

Sonego, who was playing his first Grand Slam quarter-final, beat Shelton in the first round of Roland-Garros 2023, but this time lost 2-1 in their direct confrontation.

The German Alexander Zverev (2nd) and the Serbian Novak Djokovic (7th) also validated their ticket for the semi-finals on Tuesday.
