ETS2 is a project of the European Green Deal, the EU’s major program to achieve carbon neutrality in 2050. The Polish leader recognizes that the environment and climate must be protected, but Europe risks sinking in the face of global competition, he says, if energy prices remain three times higher here than in the United States or China. “And if Europe goes bankrupt, who will protect the environment?”
Before him, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced that she would present a new plan for affordable energy in February.
“We will need to invest in the latest generation of clean energy technologies, such as (nuclear) fusion, improved geothermal systems and solid-state batteries. We also need to mobilize more private capital to modernize our electricity grids and infrastructure. “Remove all the barriers that continue to stand in the way of our energy union. And we must better connect our clean, low-carbon energy systems,” she said.
