The American Ben Shelton (20th) qualified for the semi-finals of the Australian Open on Wednesday, thanks to his victory against the Italian Lorenzo Sonego (55th).
Winner 6-4, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (7/4), the native of Atlanta (Georgia) will face in the semi-finals the winner of the match between the defending champion Jannik Sinner (1st) and the Australian Alex De Minaur (8th).
-By dominating Sonego on Wednesday on the court of the Rod Laver Arena, Shelton offered himself at 22 his second semi-final in the major tournaments, after that of 2023 at the US Open.
The 29-year-old Italian was playing his first Grand Slam quarter-final.
