This Friday, January 24,Storm Éowyn will hit mainly the British Isles but with significant repercussions on several French regions at the end of the week.

A meteorological deterioration from this Friday

Gusts exceeding 100 km/h are expected on the Channel coast. “The wind could reach the threshold of the storm”, anticipates meteorologist Yann Amice, in the columns of Actu.fr, specifying that the north-western quarter of the country will be particularly exposed.

Besides the winds, rains are likely to be heavy, increasing the risk of local flooding. The meteorological context comes from an extreme cold snap in the United States. “This situation revitalizes the jet stream, a powerful upper-altitude flow that pushes depressions towards Europe,” explains the meteorologist. A series of disruptions will hit the west of in the days to come.

Troubled weather across France

The weekend promises to be particularly eventful. Rains will cross the country, with a persistent southwest wind. Furthermore, a new low pressure system, currently off the Azores, could hit France as early as Sunday evening, threatening to prolong these disrupted conditions until the start of the following week.

Temperatures, meanwhile, will be rising. However, with an annual cumulative rainfall record already in 2024 and an equally wet start to 2025, France is entering a difficult meteorological period, marked by a succession of rainy and windy waves.
