A violent fire in a hotel in a ski resort located 170 kilometers from Ankara caused the death of 66 people and left 51 injured. Rescuers encountered significant difficulties due to the location of the establishment, built on the side of a cliff.
A dramatic fire broke out on Tuesday night in a ten-story hotel, located in the heart of a ski resort in central Turkey.
According to a report communicated by the Minister of the Interior, Ali Yerlikaya, 66 people lost their lives and 51 others were injured. Among these, one person is in serious condition.
A difficult intervention
Emergency services had to face major challenges in putting out the flames and evacuating the victims. The geographical configuration of the hotel, installed on the side of a cliff, complicated access for firefighters and lengthened response times.
Despite these obstacles, the fire was able to be brought under control, confirmed the minister, present at the scene of the tragedy.
Risk of collapse
The building, completely ravaged by flames, now presents a risk of collapse.
