On the night of Tuesday, January 21, Ukrainian drones attacked the Smolensk region, residents report on their Telegram channels. This is the most intense drone attack in the region since the start of the war.
According to preliminary information, the targets of the strikes were an aeronautical factory in the Zadneprovsky district of Smolensk and an oil refinery in the city of Yartsevo. This information has not been officially confirmed.
According to the Baza telegram channelthe drone attack caused a fire on the roof of a house on Avtozavodskaya Street. The facade of the house on Borodinskaya Street then caught fire. Windows were broken in both buildings.
The third fire occurred in an industrial zone near the Smolensk aircraft factory, which produces Su-25 attack aircraft, as well as X-55 and X-59 missiles, used for strikes against Ukraine. The plant is on the sanctions lists of the United States, Canada, Ukraine, Japan, Switzerland and the European Union.
According to initial reports, no casualties have been reported in the city. The shock wave from the explosion reportedly shattered the windows of the top floor of a building where the drone fell.
Vasily Anokhinthe governor of the Smolensk region, recognized attack on the region, but did not give details. According to him, there were no casualties, but two houses were damaged.

“Roof fires were observed on the ground and on the roofs of certain buildings following falling debris from drones. Windows of residential buildings were also damaged“.
Vasily Anokhin also écrit that unreliable data may appear on the network, which “may prove to be an element of information warfare”, and called for not relying on it.
Furthermore, on the night of January 21, drone attacks and air defense operations were reported in the regions of Rostov, Voronej, Saratov, Belgorod and Briansk. The airports of Kazan andOulianovsk have temporarily suspended their flights.
The Russian Ministry of Defense indicated that 68 Ukrainian drones were intercepted over Russian regions.
