Russia said on Tuesday that it had shot down 55 Ukrainian drones during the night, which notably attacked an oil depot, already on fire for several days after a similar attack and where a new fire was caused.
“Over the past night, air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 55 Ukrainian aerial drones” in six Russian regions, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.
Six drones were notably shot down in the Voronezh region (west), bordering Ukraine, according to the same source.
The fall of a drone on the territory of a local oil depot caused a “new fire”, this site having already been on fire for six days after being hit by a similar Ukrainian strike, the governor wrote on Telegram regional, Alexandre Goussev.
According to him, the attack “did not cause any injuries” and “there is no threat to the local population”.
“Firefighters and rescue services will resume their efforts to bring the fire under control as soon as it is safe,” he added.
-Videos, published by Russian media and on social networks, showed a major blaze on the site in recent days.
Ukraine regularly strikes military targets and energy sites in Russia, in response to the Kremlin’s daily strikes which have devastated its territory since February 2022.
