After suffering a 1-0 defeat against Montevideo Wanderers in their first match of 2025, Instituto will look to win against Defensor Sporting in their second friendly match of the year. Here are the details of the upcoming meeting.
As part of the Rio de la Plata series, Instituto will face Defensor Sporting at the Luis Franzini Stadium in Montevideo, Uruguay, on Tuesday at 10:00 p.m. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN Premium and on the Disney+ streaming platform.
La Gloria comes into this match after its defeat against Montevideo Wanderers, where Royón scored the only goal from the penalty spot in the 48th minute of the second half.
Defensor Sporting, for their part, comes to this match after a heavy 5-2 defeat against Independiente last Saturday.
The Instituto goalkeeper, who suffered a facial injury leading to head trauma that forced him to leave the match last Saturday, returned to Córdoba for medical treatment. Therefore, the 24-year-old will not be available for tomorrow’s match.

The Alta Córdoba club released a statement regarding the situation: “Goalkeeper Manuel Roffo suffered direct trauma to the head resulting in tooth loss. Follow-up examinations showed no further complications.” The statement added: “He will return to Córdoba for definitive dental treatment.”
After the friendly against Defensor Sporting, Instituto will be back in action on Saturday January 25 at 7:15 p.m., facing Gimnasia de la Plata in the Liga Profesional.
Following this first match in Zone B, Pedro Troglio’s team will travel to Buenos Aires to face River on Wednesday January 29 at 9:30 p.m.
