David Luiz Rejoin Fortaleza – footboom1.com

Brazilian club Fortaleza have announced the signing of World Cup defender David Luiz, a former player for Chelsea, Arsenal and Saint-Germain. He has signed a contract which will tie him to the club until December 2026, with an option for a further year.

David Luiz, who was a free agent after his departure from Flamengo, opted to join the Ceará-based team, overlooking offers from other Brazilian and international clubs, including Greece’s Olympiakos.

“I had other offers with significantly higher financial conditions, but I chose Fortaleza because I believe our project better corresponds to my professional aspirations and my life values,” said the club’s general director , Marcelo Paz, in a press release.

With this transfer, the 37-year-old defender concludes his adventure at Flamengo, where he spent the last three seasons, winning a Copa Libertadores and two Copa do Brasil titles.

Before his return to Brazil, Luiz enjoyed a 14-year career in European football, starting out at Benfica, where he was loaned out in 2007 before transferring permanently.
