Ethel Cain responded to criticism over her post that used the hashtag “KillMoreCEOs.”
Earlier this month, the musician shared her thoughts on the high-profile murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson after he was gunned down outside a Manhattan hotel in December.
The assassination sparked a manhunt that lasted several days, with police eventually arresting Luigi Mangione, who was found with a three-page manifesto in which he criticized the US healthcare system.
In response on January 10, Cain expressed frustration with the system and said that while not “reactionary,” violence was “sometimes” the answer. “It’s simple,” she wrote. “You make them fear for their lives and hit them where they suffered, otherwise nothing will ever be done. » She signed the Instagram post with the hashtag “KillMoreCEOs.”
She then faced a wave of backlash and criticism, primarily from conservatives and the right. Fox News even called for a boycott of the musician because of her “terrorist” and “depraved” comments. “The message there is that violence is the answer,” Guy Benson said on the American channel. “You know who used the exact same mentality, that type of language? Terrorists. This is real terrorism she’s talking about here… This should be a very clear, black and white moral issue, and it’s frightening to see how much support this type of sentiment has received.”
In a new post on Tumblr, Cain responds to the criticism she faced for her comments. She claims that neither the “corrupt” health care system nor climate change is “a red versus blue issue,” and she also defends her position, which she says should not be considered a “woke liberal view.” .
-He concluded: “Since when has “respect for traditional values” gone hand in hand with… the defense of legislators and oil tycoons? My family and I complain about the same problems at the dinner table. The men in charge better be able to keep their digital smokescreens going as long as they can, because as soon as the rednecks and hippies lay down their swords long enough to realize they have the same enemy, the all hell will break loose.

Magione made headlines for several weeks in late 2024, developing something of a cult following online. After his arrest, Mangione became an internet meme phenomenon – and two documentaries about him are already in the works.
Last December, Chris Rock made a joke about Thompson’s death in his monologue. During his fourth stint as Saturday Night Live (SNL) host, he discussed the Internet’s reaction to Mangione.
Earlier this month, Cain released his new album “Perverts,” which received four stars from ZikNation in a magazine. It reads: “Casual fans can’t even last three minutes. But for those who are willing to sit with its discomfort, “Perverts” reveals hidden depths – in the same way that eyes need time to adjust to dim light. What it reflects is in the eye of the beholder.
