Israel faces a major challenge: returning to a “normal” life hostages who have lived more than 470 days of hell in tunnels, undernourished, locked in total isolation under the constant threat of physical and psychological violence from their Hamas captors.
When asked about how his family members will be taken care of, Ifat Zeiler’s answer is clear and vague at the same time. “In fact, we don’t know exactly what we are going to face”admits this cousin of the Bibas family, whose father, mother and two children, Ariel and Kfir, aged 4 and 2, have become, despite themselves, the symbol of the ordeal suffered by the 98 hostages kidnapped by Hamas on October 7, 2023 in southern Israel.
One thing is certain: for the Bibas, as for Romi Gonen, 24 years old, Doron Steinbrecher, 31 years old, and Emily Damari, 28 years old, the first three hostages released on Sunday January 19, allow them to at least partially overcome the trauma of this hellish period, has become a new national emergency mission for Israel.
