Chelsea is once again striking the market for young French talents. According to information from RMC Sportthe London club is about to recruit Mamadou Sarr, a promising 19-year-old central defender from Strasbourg. Author of a convincing start to the season with 12 starts in Ligue 1, Sarr, trained at Olympique Lyonnais, should commit to a transfer worth around 20 million euros. But in an unprecedented deal, he will remain on loan in Alsace until the end of the season, or even beyond, strengthening the defensive axis of Liam Rosenior’s team.
Sarr to London, then Strasbourg
This operation is part of a strategy coordinated by BlueCo, the American consortium that owns Chelsea and Strasbourg since 2023. The former Lyonnais will not be the first player to transit between the two clubs: Chelsea is also planning to recall the full-back Caleb Wiley to free up a place in the quota of players loaned to Strasbourg, where Andrey Santos and Djordje Petrovic are already playing. After the signings of Disasi, Fofana and Gusto, this deal confirms the Blues’ appetite for young French defenders while offering Sarr progression without immediate pressure within his current club.
