After the fire which ravaged a building in the center of Bordeaux, a judicial investigation opened

In this case, an 18-year-old young man was arrested and taken into police custody, a few hours after the disaster which broke out in the early morning, Saturday January 18. Suspected of being involved in the fire, but still benefiting from the presumption of innocence, this young Bordeaux resident must be presented to an investigating judge this Monday, January 20.

The prosecution specifies that it has taken requests for placement in pre-trial detention against him.

He knew some people who had rented one of the apartments in the building, through Airbnb, to have a party. A party to which he would have gone, around 5 a.m., before leaving quickly.

The fire broke out around 6 a.m. He allegedly took from the common areas of the building, located at 33 rue Montbazon. Significant emergency resources were sent to the site, mobilizing up to 70 firefighters. Twelve people who were at risk of being trapped by the flames were rescued using hooked ladders. All the victims were then sheltered in a nearby pub.
