Alcaraz: “If I think about everything he did in tennis, I wouldn’t be able to play”
Record holder of titles in Melbourne (10), Novak Djokovic gains strength over the rounds of this 2025 Australian Open. After losing a set in his first two matches, he easily dominated, in three sets, the Czech Tomas Machac in the 3rd round and Jiri Lehecka in the round of 16.
“I played against two Czech players (Machac and Lehecka) who are in very good form. I’m very happy that I was able to beat them without losing a set. This encourages me to believe that I can win against any opponent on a good day, when I feel at my best,” he said after his round of 16 victory in a press conference.
Seeded number 7 after a year 2024 without a grand slam title, Novak Djokovic has the right to a difficult draw from the quarter-finals, in the person of Carlos Alcaraz.
-The 21-year-old Spaniard is in great form in Australia, spending very little time on the courts: three matches out of four, won in less than two hours. Only the Portuguese Nuno Borges in the 3rd round took a set from him (6-2, 6-4, 6-7 (3), 6-2).
Carlos Alcaraz is on assignment in Melbourne. An Australian Open title would allow him to become the youngest player in history to win all four Grand Slam titles following victories at the 2022 US Open, 2023 and 2024 Wimbledon and 2024 French Open .
“If I think about everything he has done in tennis, I wouldn’t be able to play. Twenty-four Grand Slams, most weeks in first place, everything. He almost broke all tennis records. I try not to think about it during the match. I know my weapons. I know I am capable of beating him,” Alcaraz said before his quarter-final in a press conference.
