In the personal diaries of North Korean soldiers, the Ukrainian authorities were able to discover the motivations of these soldiers. Some would have written that he “would carry out the orders of the supreme commander (Kim Jong-un, editor’s note) without hesitation”.
On January 11, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that two North Korean soldiers had been captured in the Kursk region.
Since then, the Ukrainian press has revealed more about the two prisoners, aged around twenty, and in particular about the personal effects they owned at the time they were captured.
According to KyivPost, false identity documents were allegedly found on them, supplied by Russia. Handwritten instructions were also discovered, in which it was indicated that they were to favor suicide rather than capture.
Elements that support the statements of a South Korean MP, Lee Seong-kweunwho cited the Seoul intelligence service, and who emphasized that North Korea encouraged his soldiers deployed to Russia to fight against Ukraine to commit suicide to avoid capture.
