It will be parked inside the courtyard of the mixed city of Parc Impérial in Nice. A double-decker bus will arrive in majesty before the start of the school year in September. This mega food truck will replace the current cafeteria which will be transformed into a high school student center at the next school year, in 2026. “It is a project which has a double objective. We have an obligation to provide a catering service to our 150 apprentices and we must provide space for our 2,000 high school students”explains the principal of Parc Impérial, Hervé Beauvais.
“We are going to dismantle the seats on both levels”
It must be said that the establishment’s canteen is full with 1,500 students (800 high school students and 700 middle school students). The cafeteria and soon the double-decker bus are therefore a complementary means of offering students something to eat on the go. The food truck will serve 400 meals (sandwiches, salads, etc.)
The double-decker bus was purchased by the mixed city from a tourism company during the Covid period.
It will be reverse engineered by the Depetris heavy-duty bodywork. Its representative, Sarah Depetris, explains: “We will dismantle the seats on both levels, except the driver’s seat. Then we will unblock the bus. We will then be able to tackle the transformation. On the first level, we will create a mobile kitchen with refrigerators, ovens, dishwashers, display cases cold and hot, stainless steel worktop We will create a real professional kitchen On the second level, there will be a light screen for information for students. The principal of the Imperial Park indicates that “this upper space will be dedicated to communication and events such as the anti-harassment day, the prize giving for BTS students or the end of year party for middle school students”.
-“This project is co-piloted by the students”
Once the double-decker bus is put into service, the 200m2 of the cafeteria will be completely rehabilitated to become a center for high school students. “This project is co-piloted by the students. At the time, they wanted to find a collaborative library, a mutual help space for homework, a projection room, a place for storytime naps where the students can also sit comfortably as possible and listen to a story read or told by someone else, or a place to listen to music”says Hervé Beauvais. And to add: “But this project can still evolve according to everyone’s wishes. We will take advantage of school vacation periods to carry out the work.”
The double-decker bus and the high school students’ house, which will be a few meters apart, will be integrated into a broader reflection, according to the principal of the Parc Impérial, “in terms of greening the courtyard and creating a real place of conviviality and relaxation”.
