After a balanced match in the first leg in Comminges (Léopards won 16-14), we expected balanced debates yesterday for the return match in Choisy. Especially since the “green and white” were deprived of their best try scorer and New Zealand play leader Jack Aiken, injured in the orbital floor during the last outing in Limoux.
But very quickly, we understood that Jo Walmbergue’s teammates were going to have a quiet afternoon, without spending too much energy. Having obviously remained on the bus, the visitors were really unrecognizable in the first half, forgetting to tackle and really lacking aggressiveness on impacts. In such a context, we witnessed a real walk in the park for the locals who quickly opened the scoring with a surplus on the left and a try at the end of the line from winger Gabriel Riguet (6-0, 9th). Reduced to twelve on a yellow card collected by the pillar Ader, the “Ours” then took the broth and conceded three additional tries during their numerical inferiority (22-0, 20th). There was only one team on the field, and Villeneuve 13 took advantage of the open doors to drive home the point at the end of the first period with two new achievements signed Lucas Vergniol, after a great effort, and Gabriel Riguet, author of a hat-trick (32-0, 39th).
So, at the time of the break, the match was already over, because it was difficult to see the Commingeois making up their huge deficit. If the Leopards of Aquitaine relaxed, if their collective sequences lacked a little fluidity with a little more technical waste in their game, and if the visitors finally woke up with three tries signed Minga (62nd), Hellec (71st) and Dumas (73rd), this in no way changed the final scenario which had been written for a while. It was even the Lot-et-Garonnais players who had the last word on a final push from hooker Raphael Savar (40-16, 77th). Thanks to this great success and this 6th victory of the season, Constant Villegas’ men still remain in the race for qualification. The next trip to Avignon will be very expensive with a view to finishing in a top 6 at the end of the regular phase.
