Hundreds of people held a white march in Albias in Tarn-et-Garonne this Sunday, January 19. One year after the tragedy which cost the life of young Margaux, 14, mowed down by a train in the station of this town.
It is a tragedy that took a life and destroyed a family. A year ago, the 14-year-old girl, accompanied by two friends, got off the train at Albias station. She follows the other travelers by crossing the railway tracks towards the station, using the pedestrian crossings provided for this purpose. At the end of the procession, she was fatally hit by a train at 154 km/h. “ She did not have a phone in her hand or an earpiece, this was established by a video surveillance camera », recalled Marie Roquette, Margaux’s aunt, during the tribute.
Today Margaux’s parents want to make themselves heard and warn about the dangers of these pedestrian crossings at railway stops, of which there are 800 in France. “ We want to bring all that out, that there are risks in these areas. We want to fight », whispers Jérémie Roquette, Margaux’s father to our team.
-The family is now campaigning for the crossings to be improved, and that ” more than a red light signal » to alert of the passage of a train. “ When the gendarme explained the situation to me I gave up and said to myself: there will be others », he observes.
Friends, families, relatives and political representatives marched in support of Margaux’s family from the town hall to Albias station. Around three hundred people mobilized in emotion and silence.
During a speech, Margaux’s aunt recalled that the teenager “ was not a brainless person as some comments on social networks may have suggested “. Despite an investigation closed without further action, the family continues its fight to secure pedestrian crossings in stations.
The meditation concluded at Albias station, a stone’s throw from the tragedy, with a release of balloons.
