Eintracht Frankfurt made it three wins in a row after inflicting a third consecutive defeat on Borussia Dortmund in the German Bundesliga, 2-0, on Friday.
The Eagles started well and should have opened the scoring two minutes into the game after a moment of madness from Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, but Hugo Larsson was unable to seize the opportunity from 11 yards out.
Dortmund almost opened the scoring seven minutes later, but Serhou Guirassy’s point-blank header hit the woodwork at the far post.
The first goal came at the other end of the pitch in the 18th minute, when Rasmus Kristensen rushed down the right wing and rolled in, before Hugo Ekitike tapped in from a central position.
After the restart, Frankfurt stopped attacking and handed control to the visitors, who lacked enough ideas to create meaningful chances in the second half.
-The home side were not done scoring, however, and put the result beyond doubt in the closing stages, when Can Uzun dispossessed Emre Can before serving to Oscar Hojlund, who kept his cool past Kobel to score the double in stoppage time.
The result puts third-placed Frankfurt two points behind defending champions Bayer Leverkusen, second-placed, who host Borussia Moenchengladbach on Saturday, while Dortmund remain 10th.
Omar Marmoush, who has scored 15 league goals this season, has been left out of the squad. Frankfurt have confirmed that the Egyptian is close to completing his move to Manchester City. He will remain apart of the team while negotiations continue. But he still arrived on the pitch with his teammates to bid what appeared to be a farewell to the home fans, after the 2-0 victory.
