imperial, Brignone wins in the super-G of Cortina d’Ampezzo

The Italian won this Sunday and increased her lead in the general classification of the World Cup.

The Italian Federica Brignone brilliantly increased her lead in the general classification of the Alpine Ski World Cup on Sunday by dominating the super-G in Cortina d’Ampezzo (Italy).

Brignone, 34, relegated the Swiss Lara Gut-Behrami and Corinne Suter, respectively to 58/100th and 1 sec 08/100th, while the American Lindsey Vonn, back on the circuit at 40 after six years of retirement, fell, without seriousness. Brignone, already the oldest winner in the World Cup, won her 31st victory, her fourth of the winter in a third discipline after the giant (Sölden and Semmering) and the downhill (Sankt Anton).

La Valdotaine consolidated her status as the most successful Italian skier in history on the world circuit. Goggia missed her start and was mishandled by the “Tofane” to finish 7th, 1 sec 25/100 behind her compatriot and great rival. Only 20th in the downhill the day before, Vonn, back on the circuit with a knee replaced by a titanium prosthesis, was this time in the mix and could aim for her first podium since March 2018, but she made a mistake and lost fell, before quickly getting up again.

100 points ahead overall

Her highly anticipated reunion with Cortina where she won twelve times did not keep their promises. She now has an appointment in Germany in Garmisch-Partenkirchen next weekend for a downhill and a super-G.

In the general classification of the World Cup, Brignone now has more than 100 points ahead of the Swiss Camille Rast who is not participating in the speed events. They will come face to face on Tuesday at Kronplatz, still in Italy, for a giant slalom.
