The fire started around 1:30 a.m. in an old farm renovated and divided into two dwellings, an officer from the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS) of Doubs told AFP, confirming information from ICI (ex-France Blue).
On the ground floor, a family of two adults and three children were able to leave the premises before emergency services arrived, but upstairs, the 86-year-old man was found unconscious by emergency services. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

In the morning, firefighters continued to extinguish residual fires. The structure of the building, weakened, presented a risk of collapse. An investigation has been opened.
