Novak Djokovic came out under the whistles after qualifying for the quarter-finals (video)

Qualified for the quarter-finals of the Australian Open, after his victory this Sunday against the Czech Jiri Lehecka, Novak Djokovic left the court to the whistles of the public.

The atmosphere was not festive at the Rod Laver Arena. Novak Djokovic won his ticket to the quarter-finals of the Australian Open this Sunday by defeating Czech Jiri Lehecka in three sets (6-3, 6-4, 7-6).

But, while he will face Carlos Alcaraz for a place in the last four, the Serbian was in no mood to linger on the court and quickly slipped away.

He was content with a few words at the microphone of Jim Courrier, who came to question him during the traditional interview, before leaving. “Thank you so much for being there. I appreciated your presence and your support. See you in the next round. Thank you all,” he simply declared.

This attitude caused the ten-time winner of the Australian Open to come out to the whistles of the public present in the stands. And a few moments later, he returned to the reasons for his hasty departure, which was a sign of protest against the Australian broadcaster “Nine”. One of the channel’s journalists allegedly made derogatory remarks against him and that of Serbian supporters.

“A few days ago, the famous sports journalist (Tony Jones, editor’s note) who works for the official broadcaster of the Australian Open, ‘Nine’, made fun of Serbian fans and also made insulting comments and offensive to me. And since then, he has chosen not to issue a public apology, neither has ‘Nine’. As these are official channels, I chose not to give interviews for ‘Nine’. I have nothing against Jim Courier or the Australian public,” he assured at a press conference.

It remains to be seen what reception he will receive during his quarter-final on Tuesday, against the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in a rematch of the final of the 2024 Olympic Games in , won by Novak Djokovic (7-6, 7-6).
