Thomas Giacomel opened his meter in Biathlon World Cup.
The Italian scored his first victory at this level during the mass start of Ruhpolding this Sunday, January 19. By achieving a 20/20 against the targets and spending most of the race at the front, the 24-year-old biathlete won in 36 min 21 s 8. He was ahead of the first two in the general ranking of the season: Sturla Holm Laegreid took 2nd place at 6.3 s and Johannes Thingnes Boe completed the podium 5.1 seconds later for his first race since theannouncement of his retirement.
The French have long been at the forefront, notably Quentin Fillon Maillet et Émilien Jacquelinbut the standing shots cost them dearly. With 17/20 and 18/20 against targets respectively, they still finished in the top 10. QFM even invited himself to the flower ceremony with the second ski time to finish sixth while Émilien Jacquelin took eighth place.
