The day after Sofia Goggia’s victory in the downhill, Federica Brignone secured a second Italian success by authoritatively winning the super G in Cortina d’Ampezzo on Sunday. Leading at all intermediate points, the Milanese easily dislodged – by 1 second 08 – Corinne Suter from the provisional first place, which the Schwytoise who left with bib number 1 had occupied since the start of the race. Only Lara Gut-Behrami then managed to come in, setting the second time, 58 hundredths behind Brignone.
Fourth in the downhill on Saturday, the Ticino rider signs her fourth podium of the season. However, she is still looking for her first victory of the season, while Federica Brignone already has four successes. Lara Gut-Behrami retains her red bib as leader of the Super G World Cup (285 points, Brignone 250) but sees the Italian take off in the general classification. Federica Brignone now has 639 points, 106 more than Camille Rast from Valais.
Third with three hundredths ahead of the Italian Elena Curtoni and six hundredths over the Austrian Ricarda Haaser, Corinne Suter, already fifth in the descent, will be fully satisfied with this first podium since March 2023 (3rd in the Kvitfjell descent) , on a track where she suffered a serious knee injury last year. Behind Gut-Behrami and Suter, the other Swiss women all ranked higher than 20th.
Much anticipated on her favorite track, Lindsey Vonn fell halfway through the race, her left foot slipping out from under her as she exited the turn. The American had already experienced a similar mishap on Thursday in training. On Saturday, she took a somewhat disappointing twentieth place during the descent. Between her victory statistics in Cortina (20 podiums, 12 victories, 6 in downhill and 6 in super G) and that of her absence (she had not skied there for 3283 days), it is the second which for the moment still prevails.
