Among sports legends, only Margaret Court, Steffi Graf, Monica Seles and Serena Williams have matched Gauff’s incredible performance in the Open era. Reflecting on this achievement, Gauff expressed her gratitude, saying: “It’s pretty crazy to be among the same statistics as the legends, and I’m very grateful.”

She continued: “We worked hard during the offseason. Obviously there is still a long way to go to reach my goals, but I can say that I am proud of myself and the way I play. funny because I felt like a few years ago I had a really tough time where if I lost the first set I lost the match. I remember my dad saying, ‘You have to. beat a little more,’ so every time I think to this, I draw deeper within myself.”

In his match against Bencic, Gauff faced a challenge, dropping a set for the first time this season before coming back to win 5-7, 6-2, 6-1. The American is now just one win away from a potential clash against two-time defending champion Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals, but first she must overcome Paula Badosa.

Gauff analyzed his performance, admitting: “When I lost that first set, I knew I was playing a little too passive at times. It’s difficult when you’re playing against someone who stands on the baseline and hit hard. I almost had to play like her to get out of that situation I think I started to aim my shots more and accept maybe making more unforced errors, hoping to see the rewards more. late.”
