The Hawks win a thriller in Boston (119-115)

In a match that was undecided until the end, it was the Hawks of a very good Trae Young (28 points, 11 assists) who won against the Celtics in Boston! (119-115) It took overtime and a constant emotional lift to finish this match.

For the detailed stats of this meeting, it’s here

A match of runs

Just 24 hours after beating the Magic in style, the Celtics are already back on deck. No Porzingis or Al Horford tonight, preserved. However, Boston has no problem starting its match. The defense is aggressive, the Hawks lose a string of balls and the Celtics take the opportunity to go all out on the counterattack. With Trae Young well contained and the Holiday – Brown pair to ensure the scoring, this first quarter is a Boston stroll.

Hit but not sunk, the Hawks will slowly but surely return to the match thanks to their bench. Okongwu and Bogdanovic do not take long to show up, Atlanta offers great sequences of play while Boston begins to fall back into its ways. The greens had only lost one ball in the first quarter, they lost 6 over the 12 minutes, including some very lunar sequences. While they were 12 points behind after the first act, Atlanta is in the lead at the break! (52-48)

Returning from the locker room, the Hawks did not let go of their grip on the match. Young has definitely entered his game and Atlanta will seek its ten point lead. An ideal scenario that will quickly turn around. The Hawks scored 12 points in the first 3 minutes of the third quarter. They will only score 9 more over the next 9. Once again, Boston’s defense made the difference and Atlanta was unable to make the necessary stops to calm the Boston storm (a 23-9 run).

The Celtics can blame themselves…

The momentum seems to have turned in favor of the Celtics, who are starting this money time in the best way with Payton Pritchard who is heating up. The favorite for the sixth man of the year scored 13 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter, he is everywhere! Despite Trae Young on the bench, Atlanta still manages to get back together. Krejci in particular makes the gunpowder speak at long distance. De’Andre Hunter also scores several important baskets to calm the crowd.

The money time keeps its promises with a crazy scenario and the victory which wavers from one side then the other in a few seconds. With 20 seconds to go, Atlanta loses the ball and Young takes a technical, Boston seems to be holding the right end at +3 with the surge. But Jrue Holiday restarts while losing the ball then fouling Young who makes his two throws. Jayson Tatum is sent to the line but one misses! Trae Young, again, makes another mistake to send all these beautiful people to overtime!

The overtime will be no less contested, with two teams responding tit for tat, with even the start of a disagreement between Okongwu and Tatum. A little spice, we can’t say no. On the Boston side, a little concern with the big fall of Jaylen Brown. Fortunately not serious. It is ultimately Atlanta which will make the difference thanks in particular to this very good Onyeka Okongwu (19 points, 13 rebounds, 4 blocks coming off the bench!). Not content with blocking Jaylen Brown at the end of overtime, the pivot saved his team by snatching a crucial offensive rebound after two missed shots from Jalen Johnson. Capela’s liner (not for long) doesn’t tremble and puts in his two throws.

Jayson Tatum will have a chance to equalize but his shot only hits the circle and Jalen Johnson ends up on the line. Big victory for Atlanta, which takes the champion on its home turf.
