The Chinese social network announced on Friday that it would suspend its services due to the lack of guarantees from the Biden administration. President-elect Donald Trump, who had been more conciliatory with the platform, cannot intervene before taking office on Monday.
The suspension of the social network comes a day after the US Supreme Court ruled that it had upheld the law that Congress had passed last March to ban the platform in the name of national security. The decision by the highest US court came just over thirty-six hours before the deadline imposed by Congress on ByteDance to sell its subsidiary.

“We are fortunate that President Trump has indicated that he will work with us on a solution to restore TikTok once he takes office,” the Chinese platform’s message encourages its users’ screens, concluding with: “Stay tuned!”
