Calgary, Alberta (January 18, 2025) — Cameron Alexander (North Vancouver, BC) posted back-to-back top-10 finishes in the men’s downhill at the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup in Wengen, Switzerland. After taking 8th place in the super-G yesterday, he moved up to 5th place today. James Crawford (Toronto, ON), 4th yesterday, finished 9th in the downhill.
During this fourth descent of the season, which includes nine in total, where speeds of 150 km/h were reached on the legendary Lauberhorn piste, and the longest race on the circuit (4.4 km), Alexander collected his fifth top 10 of the season, including his third in downhill.
“It’s really cool to have a good result in one of the classics,” said Alexander. It’s strange because I scored my first World Cup points in Wengen five years ago, and it was my best result so far here in downhill. I’ve been fast in the past, but I always made a little mistake. So to be fifth today is excellent. »
Brodie Seger (North Vancouver, BC) managed to collect World Cup points today by taking 27th place, and Jeffrey Read (Canmore, AB) finished 41st.
Two Canadian skiers took part in the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup downhill today in Cortina D’Ampezzo, Italy, site of the alpine events at the Cortina-Milano 2026 Winter Olympics. third downhill event of the season which includes eight in total. Valérie Grenier (St. Isidore, ON) finished 21st today on the track where she had two top 5 finishes, including a third place in downhill, last season. She climbed just behind the American Lindsay Vonn who is continuing her return to the World Cup at age 40.
Cassidy Gray (Panorama, BC) finished 46th in her first start in a World Cup downhill event.
