Weather report. What is the weather like this Sunday, January 19 in Hauts-de-France?

The anticyclone which has protected us for more than a week is starting to shift towards Eastern Europe. However, pressures remain high over the region, and clouds are still pressed to the ground. Grayness is therefore once again the order of the day.

Fog and gray prevail at the start of the day. Even if some pockets of clearing are possible in Thiérache and Avesnois, caution on the roads remains relevant, not only because of the reduced visibilities, but also the possibility of freezing fog in the coldest areas this morning, this which makes the roads slippery.

For this afternoon (and the next few days) one word: hope! Today, the hope concerns a (temporary) improvement in visibility. Little chance of seeing the sun for some. The wind is moving to the southwest sector, putting an end to possible clearings in the east of the region. As for the mists and fogs, they reform at the end of the day.

You’ll feel it if you go out early this morning, it’s cold! Temperatures drop locally to -5 or even -6°C. That said, the entire region is affected by frost, as you can see on the map, the morning temperatures are all negative, the day’s range fluctuating between -4 and -1°C in general.

Maximum temperatures, although wintry, regain a little color this afternoon : 2 to 5°C.

Change for the fourth week of the year ?

Monday : If the start of the week remains calm and anticyclonic, pressures continue to drop. The hope of the day is to see a more changeable sky, making the atmosphere brighter. All this, of course, after the morning gray has dissipated. Another phenomenon to observe: Some rain may occur in the Channel. If they overflow in Picardy in the morning, the frozen ground could become slippery. The generally weak south to southwest wind will be temporarily moderate in the far north and near the coasts. Temperatures will rise a little, Météo France announces minimums between -2 and 0°C, and maximums which will range from 3 to 5°C inland, up to 7°C by the sea.

Mardi : After the dissipation of the few fogs which may persist in the morning, it will be necessary to take advantage of the lightly cloudy sky which will follow ! Because the general conditions will start to change. High-altitude clouds will arrive from the southwest in the afternoon, announcing an approaching disturbance which will be slowed down by the wind oriented to the southeast. As for our thermometers, the frost will still be widespread with -4 to -1°C, the maximums will range from 4 to 7°C.

Wednesday : The start of the day will be rather pleasant since it should offer us beautiful sunny beaches, but the famous disturbance announced on Tuesday will end up spoiling our afternoon with the rainy spells which will dominate. The day’s temperatures will range from -1 to 3°C for mini, from 3 to 9°C for maxi.

With such weather conditions, the news from ATMO Hauts-de-France is not encouraging for air quality. Indeed, the degraded to poor index is maintained throughout the territory, atmospheric conditions favoring the accumulation of pollutants in the air, in particular PM2.5 particles responsible for this index.
