Is TikTok living its last hours in the United States?

LThe social network TikTok announced it itself. Without action from the American government, it will be “forced to disappear” on Sunday January 19 at midnight local time, she explained in a press release released Friday evening. The ban, put in place as part of a law signed by President Joe Biden last April, would mark the first U.S. shutdown of a major social network.

To address national security concerns, TikTok, which claims about 170 million American users and an estimated revenue of $20 billion in 2025, will be banned in the United States unless its parent company, ByteDance, does not sell the American activity of the social network to a neutral actor. This decision of the Supreme Court validated Friday which, without intervention from the authorities, suggests an imminent end for the platform.
