Clubs Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid have encountered unexpected obstacles in the run-up to Real Madrid’s match against Las Palmas.
This Saturday, FC Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid crucially lost points in their quest for the LaLiga title.
Firstly, Barcelona’s perfect start to the new year was tarnished by a 1-1 draw against Getafe, marking their fourth consecutive league meeting without a win. Jules Koundé opened the scoring for the Catalans with a goal scored nine minutes into the game. However, Mauro Arambarri equalized for Getafe in the 34th minute, converting one of the hosts’ rare chances.
Therefore, Barcelona remains in third position with 39 points, trailing league leaders Atlético Madrid by five points. Earlier today, Atlético suffered a 1-0 defeat to Leganés.

This defeat also allows Real Madrid, which currently holds 43 points, to increase the gap with Barcelona, especially as the latter faces Las Palmas on Sunday. Getafe, for its part, finds itself in 16th position with 20 points.
-Barcelona seems far from its best level after a difficult start to 2025, having suffered heavy defeats against Barbastro (0-4 in Copa del Rey), Real Madrid (5-2 in the final of the Spanish Supercopa in Saudi Arabia ) and Betis (5-1 in the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey).
For their part, Atlético saw their remarkable 15 winning run halted in Leganés, where they suffered a 1-0 defeat, putting their position at the top of the table in jeopardy. Defender Matija Nastasic headed in a goal from a corner in the 49th minute, giving Leganés the lead. Antoine Griezmann missed a penalty in the 89th minute, which could have tied the teams, awarded following a VAR intervention.
