After a Supreme Court ruling, the TikTok app is set to be banned in the United States from Sunday, January 19. But Donald Trump may not implement this decision.
In the United States, the TikTok application must be banned from American phones on Sunday January 19, after a decision by the Supreme Court citing reasons of national security. The Chinese application must sell its subsidiary to an American investor. This decision is incomprehensible to the 170 million American users. “It’s sad to think that we are deleting applications, that we are affecting freedom of expression here in the United States”says a woman.
The social network’s salvation will perhaps come from Donald Trump, because it is up to the next government to implement the Supreme Court’s decision. The president-elect is very popular on TikTok and has announced that he will likely grant a 90-day reprieve from the app. He also invited the CEO of TikTok to his inauguration, Monday January 20. “I want to thank President Trump for helping us find a solution to keep TikTok available in the United States”claims Shou Zi Chew, patron of TikTok.
