Lane Hutson is in Cale Makar’s league

These days, things are going particularly well for Lane Hutson. The rookie defenseman, who demonstrates game after game that he is a special player, has scored at least one point in each of his last six games.

And when I say “at least one point”, it’s because he has 10 during this sequence.

What is clear is that the defender is already elite in attack creation. He’s not a big scorer, but he collects assists by the ton, having 33 in 44 games this season.

However, to get assists, you have to be able to create scoring opportunities from your passes… and Hutson is excellent at this level.

In fact, Meghan Chayka (an expert in advanced statistics) was on TSN, and during her segment, she made a statement that clearly demonstrates the talent of young Hutson:

In terms of the quality of the shots that come from his passes, he is just behind Cale Makar, therefore second in the NHL. –Meghan Chayka

What does all that mean? Basically, this means that the CH recruit, through his passes, not only creates scoring opportunities, but also quality shots. In fact, in the entire league, only Cale Makar is better than Hutson at creating quality shots from his passes.

Quinn Hughes, Adam Fox and so on: they are behind Hutson in this regard. And yet, their reputation is well established.

It is no coincidence that, compared to last year, CH scores more goals on average per match. Having a facilitator like Hutson who puts his teammates in a good position to find the back of the net is a game changer.

For those who know a little about basketball, it’s a bit like having a good playmaker as a playmaker: it elevates everyone’s game because they are put in a better position to score.

Seeing Hutson dominate offensively in the NHL isn’t necessarily a surprise, but seeing him be Also dominant in his year recruitit’s solid. And it’s another good argument for his agent, who should negotiate a very nice contract for him in a few months…

In burst

– Speaking of Makar.

– Well done.

– The CH players are happy to no longer live out of their suitcases.

– It’s a promising duel.

– JT Miller: that would be brewing in the file currently.

– The Ullmarks have not forgotten Jeremy Swayman.
