Great regulars at the Laax Open and the highest step on the podium, the two champions did it again on Saturday in the Graubünden resort in front of an enthusiastic audience. Among the Swiss, Patrick Burgener finished 8th. Yuri Podlatchikov, returning to competition, did not qualify.
Chloe Kim and Scotty James were once again the big winners in the halfpipe at the Laax Open on Saturday, flying past their rivals to claim their first victories of the winter.
The double Olympic champion left her competitors no chance by delivering a huge first run to score maximum points from the start. His second visit was only a formality: the victory was already his – his 5th in Graubünden, in fact. Her compatriot Maddie Mastro managed to raise her performance a notch to finish 2nd ahead of Korean Gaon Choi.
Among the men, Scotty James held off a Japanese quartet determined to finish on the podium. Under pressure, the Australian, three-time world champion, still delivered a superb second run to surpass Ruka Hirano and claim a fourth success at the Laax Open. Olympic champion Ayumu Hirano finished 3rd.
-The only Swiss qualified, Patrick Burgener finished 8th. Yuri Podlatchikov, who announced his return to competition last week, narrowly missed making the final, finishing 7th in his group while only the top six advanced to the next stage.
