Australian Open: Italian Jasmine Paolini eliminated in the 3rd round

The Italian Jasmine Paolini, world No.4, was knocked out in the third round of the Australian Open, Saturday in Melbourne, by the Ukrainian Elina Svitolina (27th).

Finalist at Roland-Garros and Wimbledon in 2024 and the only player with the American Coco Gauff (3rd) to have reached the round of 16 in each of the four Grand Slam tournaments last season, Paolini lost by a score of 2- 6, 6-4, 6-0.

The 30-year-old Ukrainian will face Russian Polina Kudermetova (57th) in the next round.

Titled in the BJ Cup at the end of last season, Jasmine Paolini is the second player in the Top 5 to have been eliminated in the first week, after the premature defeat of world No.5 Zheng Qinwen in the second round on Wednesday.

Aryna Sabalenka (1st), Iga Swiatek (2nd) and Gauff continued their flawless performance on Friday and Saturday to reach the round of 16 without losing a set.
