The NHL’s oldest rivalry resumes

The Montreal Canadiens host the Toronto Maple Leafs this evening in what is the third game of the season between the two teams.

If the Habs won the first by a score of 1 to 0, on October 9, the Maple Leafs had the upper hand 4 to 1 during the second meeting, a month later.

Brilliant against the Leafs in October, after having achieved a spectacular shutout, goaltender Samuel Montembeault will be in front of the Montreal cage again this evening. The Quebec goalkeeper has been particularly effective since mid-December, as has the team in general, which has maintained an 11-2-1 record.

CH will also try to win a sixth match in seven outings this evening. The team is currently one point from the last place giving access to the playoffs, right in the heart of the famous “mix”.

What may help is that the Habs begin a streak of six out of seven home games this evening after having played a majority of matches away from home since December 23.

The Leafs, for their part, are breathing a little easier after ending a three-game losing streak on Thursday by winning 4-3 against the New Jersey Devils. Joseph Woll will be in front of the Toronto net.

The CH lineup should be very similar to what it has been in recent matches. We will know more when the team’s coach, Martin St-Louis, addresses the media late this afternoon.
