PLC leadership: Karina Gould officially launches into the race

Karina Gould, the parliamentary leader of the Liberal government, announced on Saturday, on her X account, that she was entering the race to succeed Justin Trudeau.

In a video that praises Canada and its differences with the United States, Ms. Gould described herself as part of a new generation of leaders.

“The time has come for a new generation of leaders. I’m here for Canada. I am here for you – today, tomorrow, and for years to come,” she said.

Now 37, Karina Gould was elected in 2015 at the age of 27 and was appointed President of the Privy Council two years later.

She has acted since the fall of 2023 as parliamentary leader of the Trudeau government. Originally from Ontario, she is also the Liberal MP for the riding of Burlington.
