Alpine skiing – World Cup. Marco Odermatt undisputed king of the Wengen descent, concern for Blaise Giezendanner

Marco Odermatt once again excelled himself to take on the descent of Wengen for the 3rd time. Swiss double with 2nd place for Franjo Von Allmen. Injuries for Vincent Kriechmayr but also the Chamonix skier Blaise Giezendanner.

Switzerland has not made many like him even though the country has left an indelible mark in the history of alpine skiing. After his “poor performance” on Friday, 7th in the super-G, Marco Odermatt put out a huge run to win the Wengen downhill for the third time in a row. A huge feat, for the 5th Swiss double of the season for men.

Great atmosphere in Wengen

Von Allmen confirme, Hrobat fier 3e

A double since 2 minutes 30 before the arrival of Odermatt, Franjo Von Allmen took the lead in a good way, while Miha Hrobat had been in the lead for an hour. The young Swiss downhiller with the colossus physique pushed his limits, even nearly falling at the place where Alexis Pinturault was injured last year. After his victory in super-G on Friday, Von Allmen confirms.

Never has a Slovenian been on the podium in the Wengen downhill, it was done with Miha Hrobat. Equipped with bib 1, he took advantage of this privilege. On a perfect track and not yet heated by the sun, Hrobat ran the ideal race and finished 3rd. The times had never fallen so low on the Lauberhorn, so Marco Odermatt set a new record in 2:22.58.

Kriechmayr and Giezendanner injured after falls

As is often the case, the Wengen descent, the longest of the season, was interrupted several times due to falls. The man who never got injured, Vincent Kriechmayr fell in the last corner. No more energy in his legs, he rushed straight into the tarpaulins. The Austrian came down on one ski, unable to place his right leg. Bad news before Kitzbühel.

is still affected by injuries. Blaise Giezendanner was evacuated by helicopter after a fall mid-course. The Chamoniard suffered a bad knee extension and ended up on the ground.

A generally difficult weekend for the Blues. Nils Allègre is quite far from the best but, in terms of place, the performance is not catastrophic. He is 16th. The best tricolor is Maxence Muzaton with his final 13th place. Adrien Théaux is almost three seconds behind, the Savoyard is 21st. More complicated for Nils Alphand, just over four seconds behind Marco Odermatt. Matthieu Bailet had a good race with his 19th place.
