Snow is expected in Charlevoix, even if there is more here than in Quebec and our neighbors on the North Shore.
According to Environment Canada data, the region does not have a snow deficit with an accumulation of 73 cm. However, this statistic is for higher ground. The organization does not have figures for lower areas, but we can see that there have not been many storms since the start of winter.
To compare with other regions, there were 8 cm of snow on January 12 in Baie-Comeau while the average for January is 38. In Quebec, the weather station indicates 13 cm while on average, the city receives 45 cm .
“We don’t expect much in the coming days. A few centimeters of snow could fall on Saturday. It’s not a big storm that’s forecast. We are expecting much colder temperatures, with -30°, which we haven’t had since the beginning of January. It will then be milder with temperatures of -20°,” specifies meteorologist Peter Kimbell.
-With gusty winds, the mercury could drop to -40° for tonight.
Additionally, there was less snow than last winter. 83 cm were accumulated on January 15, 2024. In 2023, December and January had more snow with an accumulation of 95 cm while in 2022, it was only 66 cm.
The lack of snow can have an impact on winter activities, including cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. It is good to find out about the conditions before going to the site.
