Sofia Imperial Goggia on the slope of the Cortina of Ampezzo

An ideal rehearsal. A year before the Olympic Games, which will be held on this same track in Cortina d’Ampezzo, the Italian Sofia Goggia won the downhill in the Dolomites resort for the fourth time.

Goggia outperformed the competition in ideal conditions, relegating the Norwegian Kajsa Vickhoff Lie to 42 hundredths and another Italian, Federica Brignone, to 55 hundredths.

And the 26the success at the highest level

Victim of a serious injury last winter (double tibia-malleoli fracture of the right leg), the 32-year-old Italian signed the 26e victory of his career, the second this winter after the super-G in Beaver Creek (United States). The Italian therefore confirmed that theOlimpia delle Tofane which will therefore host the women’s alpine skiing events of the 2026 Olympic Games, was her favorite track: she climbed on the podium there for the eighth time in her career.

“There is nothing more beautiful for an Italian than winning in Cortina,” said Goggia.

Vonn not in the game

Vonn, who fell during the first training session on Thursday, also has good habits in Cortina d’Ampezzo with twelve successes, but the American multiplied the errors on Saturday, notably in the final part with a big mistake which made her lose a lot of speed.

Thanks to her third place, her fifth podium of the winter, Brignone moved to the top of the general classification of the World Cup with 539 points, six points more than the Swiss Camille Rast who does not participate in the speed events. Brignone also took the lead in the Downhill World Cup, ahead of Goggia.
